Repository / project instructions
DocumentedAGENTS.md and AGENTS.override.md provide repository and project guidance in the documented Codex context assembly.
View source detailAgent intelligence
Source-backed Codex intelligence separates the product, model context, limited prompt excerpt, App Server integration evidence, and current CLI model-selection behavior.
Codex CLI is documented as an agentic coding interface whose harness can supply workspace context, update plans, use terminal and patch tools, and receive repository guidance through AGENTS.md. For client integrations, OpenAI has deprecated the codex mcp-server command and directs users to Codex App Server. The September 4, 2026 Codex CLI 0.153.4 entry separately records Astra's visibility in the bundled model picker, makes Astra the bundled default only when no model is explicitly configured, and limits Astra's asynchronous-question guidance to sessions where the relevant tool is available. This current product evidence does not update the pinned GPT-5.2 prompt snapshot or establish the complete runtime instruction assembly.

Source-backed answers
Each answer is scoped to the selected evidence. “Not established” means the evidence does not support the claim; it does not assert absence.
AGENTS.md and AGENTS.override.md provide repository and project guidance in the documented Codex context assembly.
View source detailThe public excerpt names making and updating plans as a communication capability.
View prompt evidenceThe excerpt lists terminal commands and patches, with configuration-dependent approval escalation.
View prompt evidenceThe excerpt says the harness can provide workspace files and other context.
View prompt evidenceThe limited excerpt does not establish a memory mechanism.
Review evidence scopeEditorial guidance
These conservative editorial implications come from the linked evidence. They add no vendor claims or generic prompt advice.
AGENTS.md and AGENTS.override.md are the established repository/project guidance mechanism in this source set.
Supporting evidencePlan updates and terminal/patch calls are established, but actual tool availability and approval escalation depend on configuration.
Supporting evidenceThe selected excerpt does not establish a separate durable memory mechanism for Codex.

Evidence status
The review maps a limited excerpt from a pinned first-party repository file, separately records App Server integration guidance, and records the current Codex CLI 0.153.4 model-selection behavior. It does not generalize the excerpt or the release note to every Codex configuration or runtime.
Detailed instruction layers
The map distinguishes base instructions, dynamic harness context, project rules, tools, approvals, and unestablished memory behavior.
Codex home can supply AGENTS.override.md or AGENTS.md defaults across repositories; project guidance follows in discovery order.

Source detailTerminal and patch calls are named; availability and approval flow are configuration-dependent.
EvidenceSupporting instruction evidence
A limited excerpt from the source is available for evidence-led reading; the complete runtime instruction assembly is not represented.

Each capability links to its supporting prompt section or first-party source and keeps its stated confidence level.
| Capability | What the source establishes | Confidence | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| User instructions | Codex home defaults to ~/.codex unless CODEX_HOME changes it. Global AGENTS.override.md takes precedence over AGENTS.md; only the first non-empty file is used. At startup, project discovery walks from project root to working directory, selecting at most one file per directory: override, AGENTS.md, then configured fallback names. Deeper guidance follows earlier guidance. Empty files are skipped; the combined limit defaults to 32 KiB. This is authored guidance, not automatic memory. | high | Primary source |
| CLI web search | Interactive Codex CLI defaults to cached web search; --search selects live web search. This tool capability does not establish unrestricted shell network access or every session configuration. | high | Primary source |

Version evidence
The prompt evidence pins one source revision. App Server guidance and the Codex CLI 0.153.4 release note are product-integration evidence, not prompt versions or instruction snapshots.

Open primary sourceThe public file contains more content than this excerpt package; runtime assembly and configuration-dependent additions are not established.
Open primary sourceEstablishes AGENTS.md and AGENTS.override.md aggregation from the Git/project root to the working directory, subject to the documented size limit; it does not describe every runtime instruction input.
Open primary sourceDeprecates the codex mcp-server command and directs integrations to Codex App Server. It does not document every App Server interface or alter the pinned prompt snapshot.
Open primary sourceDocuments Astra's bundled model-picker visibility, no-explicit-model default, and session-tool availability qualification for asynchronous-question guidance; it does not establish every Codex model-selection path, tool configuration, or the complete instruction stack.
